Founder/Operator

Kat launched Back to the Grind in 2023 after working over 15+ years in Chicago's hospitality industry. All her training and experience in opening popular establishments like the Pump Room, Soho House, and Sushi-san led to this point: from grueling 5am opening shifts in the Gold Coast to closing out a wedding at 3am at the Ivy Room, she has always had a simple goal—make people happy. Back to the Grind came to life with this mission in mind, focusing on the little details, top-notch service, and keeping the vibe fun. With this direction, the company has grown into the trusted, guest-focused brand it is today.

Mary Crisostomo

Co-owner

As a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of experience in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (Peds GI), Mary brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and operational skill to her partnership with Back to the Grind . Living with celiac disease and eosinophilic esophagitis while raising a child with food allergies has shaped her passion for thoughtful and inclusive food and beverage experiences. Fueled by coffee and tea through long shifts and graduate school, Mary channels that same energy into creating memorable, high quality coffee experiences. In 2024, inspired by Back to the Grind’ s vision to bring café-quality coffee, beautiful presentation, and exceptional service directly to events, Mary joined her cousin Kat as co-owner to help grow the company and share her love of coffee throughout Chicagoland
